There are very few countries in the world today where the need to reduce our human impact upon the environment is not taken seriously. Besids the obvious damages caused by pollutions of various forms, our depletion of resources is becoming more and more of a concern. Unfortunately, most people, as is our character as a species, don't give enough concern or care to such issues, until it becomes desperate and pounds down their own doors.


While the majority of us will never get the chance to drastically change lives or the environment, we can all contribute significantly by giving attention to the "little" things..! We believe that many small changes can have a large impact, and that we can make a serious difference, one household at a time.




Introduction

We live in a country of sometimes rather extreme opposites and contrasts. We have lush sub-tropical jungles, beautiful Savannah grasslands, and stark, dry desert regions all wrapped up in one country. So too, the extremes woven within our national, social fibre.

•  We have first world technologies, out-dated, antiquated systems and networks
•  We have the very wealthy, living in extreme luxury, and the poorest of the poor who do not have the means nor the opportunities to change their circumstances, living literally side by side. We have many who have never known the hardships of not having electricity, to a large portion of our population that have not had the basic joy of turning on a light switch to see clearly what it is they need to do
•  With the demise of apartheid came the massive pressure and demand to provide access to basic services such as electricity. This resulted in the government electrifying hundreds of thousands of homes, while neglecting to increase the capacity to produce more power to meet the demand. The result has been a steady increase in demand over the past 14 years that has outstripped Eskom’s capacity to produce. Despite the huge effort, many millions of South Africans still do not have access to electricity in their homes
•  This became the catalyst that has driven the birth of Lifestyle Energy Solutions. We are motivated to provide low cost lighting solutions to those home owners who do not have access to electrification, or cannot afford to do so. The spin off has been the ability to provide a solution to the resultant increase in blackouts and load shedding programmes that leave countless homes in the dark every night. Hand in hand with the resultant darkness, is the need for heightened security, and lighting has proven beyond doubt to be a very large contributing factor in reducing crime. To this end we have also provided a basic yet efficient solution to provide free and effective lighting when and where it is needed.
Far too many children still have to study by candlelight...!
